My Sister and BIL went to Puerto Penasco, Mexico, several years ago and bought this as a gift for me. I think it was 1994-96. I thought it was pretty cool but I had no desire to use it. I put it in a glass cabinet where it has been for all these years.
This bottle opener is in awesome condition. The scales are Abalone Shell/ Mother of Pearl. There are no broken or missing pieces. The jointed area allows the fish to articulate without any problem. I don't know how the artist put this together but the "beads" appear to be welded. The first 3 beads or pins on the top side are flat. The rest of the top and also the complete bottom are perfect. This is the way it was when they purchased it. There is no rust on the metal opener part in the mouth or the beads/pins.I'm not sure but that might be brass. The bottle opener is unsigned and unmarked.
The measurements are approximately 7.25" long. 2" (across tip of tail) 2.25" (wide part of head)1" (mouth opening).
I've seen a huge price range for these, I am uncertain of the exact value so will do my best guess-work based on the ones I have found. The bottle openers I have seen that range $200-$400 for the same size or an inch more are signed and/or marked... mine is not.
